GO in Israel

Go activity has had its ups and downs in Israel, and is now in pretty good shape. We have several active clubs, and an annual championship.

We have over 90 active (and networked) Go players in the country, (from Yesod Hamaala to Arad) the better known ones can be found here. All events are announced on the message group. People without Email are simply ignored - we have no way of keeping track of them.

Keeping in Touch

All GO activity in Israel is announced on the Email distribution list. The YAHOO page also includes the calendar of events.

The YAHOO group is the ONLY way to know what is going on and to be in touch.

Make sure YOU are a member of the YAHOO Email group. Make sure EVERYONE you play with is a member. Also, do you know anyone who plays but does not know about activities in Israel? Do let them know!

Clubs & Events

Currently, there are several regular events, as follows. You can find the dates times etc here: Reminders for all meetings (other than daily Netanya activities) are issued by Email, with all details as to how to get there. The Yahoo group system has a calendar, you are welcome to check it out.

The clubs cater for all levels of play and newcomers are welcome; often you get an interesting chat after the games too.

The idea behind the monthly clubs is that it's better to have a consistent event once a month, than to have much enthusiasm and meet twice a week for a few weeks and then let everything die down, as has been the case before. The daily club in Netanya is a local initiative to teach Go to the children of a certain neighborhood, but everyone is welcome.

Go Equipment - Now available in Israel!

Shavit Fragman, The host of the Rosh Ha-Ayin club, has volunteered to handle importing of equipment for sale. Contact him on 054 450 0453.

International Go

The way GO is organised worldwide is that you have local clubs, like Jerusalem, and then there are national associations, like the Israel Go Association, and then there are regional Federations (like Europe), with the World body in Japan.

You can find a list of worldwide GO contacts here.
